Special Olympics is the world's largest sports program for people with intellectual disabilities, which aims to integrate them into society as useful and productive citizens, in a framework of acceptance, equality and respect.
Founded in 1968 by Mrs. Eunice Kennedy Shriver, today Special Olympics has programs in more than 180 countries, incorporating more than 3.5 million athletes.
The sports programs of the movement help people with intellectual disabilities improve their self-esteem, self-confidence, dexterity and health.
