More about New York City Soccer Initiative
The New York City Soccer Initiative (NYCSI) is a public-private partnership between adidas, Etihad Airways, the Mayor’s Fund to Advance NYC, New York City Football Club (NYCFC), and the U.S. Soccer Foundation. Approaching its second year, this collaboration will see 50 mini-soccer pitches made available for community use in all five boroughs across NYC within five years. The pitches expand the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s nationally recognized soccer after-school program, Soccer for Success, and City in the Community, the charity proudly supported by NYCFC, which uses soccer to promote health, education, and leadership development, and creates safe community spaces where programming is free of charge for more than 4,000 youth each week. Through soccer programming and field-building initiatives, the Foundation 1) combats rising childhood obesity rates, 2) provides programming to improve youth safety during the after-school hours, the most dangerous time for kids, and 3) improves dilapidated spaces by turning them into safe soccer play spaces.
