More about Naz's Young People's Initiative
Naz's Young People's Initiative (YPI) is a sport for development programme that uses a netball and life skills curriculum to provide Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) access to knowledge, allow them to learn skills, change their gender attitudes and behaviour so that they become agents of change who can challenge and change the gender norms in their families and communities and become role models for other AGYW. Gender inequality limits AGYWs from economically disadvantaged backgrounds more since girls have fewer opportunities to access and realize their rights as a result of tradition and poverty. The YPI gives AGYWs the opportunity to learn, play and practice new behaviour in a safe environment. Sports enables AGYWs to increase agency over their bodies. The YPI uses sport to challenge gender norms, provides chances to level the playing field and open up opportunities for girls to live in a more just and equal society.
