More about Monrovia Football Academy
Monrovia Football Academy is the first football academy in Liberia’s history. We combine high-quality education with professional sport training to improve academic performance, break down gender barriers, and produce strong leaders. We uniquely use football – Liberia’s most popular sport – to incentivize our students to attend school, participate in the classroom, and develop positive behavior habits.
In the 2016-17 school year, we have 29 boys and 19 girls, ages 8-12, in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Our students are with us from 9am-6pm, Monday-Friday, with football training in the morning, lunch at noon, and academic classes in the afternoon. In addition, we hold academic classes on Saturdays from 9am-1:30pm.
Football is used in two ways. First, it acts as a magnet. It draws children and parents from all walks of life to our Academy. Second, we emphasize the values of football – unity, respect, discipline, joy, hard work – in every aspect of our programs. Through the combination of football and education, we consistently encourage our students to Work Hard. Be a Leader. Dream Big.
