More about MCFC Kickz Project
The MCFC Kickz project is part of a national sports intervention project for 12-18 year olds managed by the Football Foundation. The projects aims to:
1) Engage young people in constructive activities
2) Break down barries between police and young people
3) Reduce anti-social behaviour
4) Create routes into employment and training
5) Increase volunteering opportunities for young people
Manchester City has been involved in Kickz since August 2006, running sessions for 12-18 year olds on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at the Platt Lane Leisure Complex in Fallowfield. Up to 200 young people a week are given the opportunity to play football, work out in the gym, take part in MCing and DJing workshops and complete qualifications. And in June 2007 CITC launched its second Kickz project based at the Barclays Spaces for Sport, Sporting Edge sports centre in Openshaw with funding from Connexions, Manchester.
"Kickz operates in a highly multi-cultural area with many diverse groups. Traditional barriers between these young people are actively broken down by the dedicated staff and volunteers helping to bring the young people together in a positive way,” Sgt John Robb, Greater Manchester Police.
