More about Mathare North Boxing Club (Manobox)
Manobox works together with the youth in society to help build cohesion and fight crime through boxing by raising awareness about boxing as a tool for development and driving positive change in society. Manobox helps to mobilize the youth and build unity through training in boxing. Through this, youth both in and out of school, irrespective of gender can participate in boxing training and thus keep off idleness. The youth enroll and start training.
Through this, Manobox is able to identify boxing talent and help nurture it. This helps the young boys and girls channel their energies in a positive direction. In addition, Manobox offers these youth with a channel to mainstream sports by linking with other local clubs and organizations and participating in local tournaments. This provides opportunities for earning small incomes. Manobox encourages the youth through interactive boxing sessions to expand their minds and find avenues though which they may be able to help themselves. This starts with changing of attitudes and mindsets from fatalism to self-identity, this being based on the philosophy that, "The world owes you nothing, you owe the world everything." Boxing training thus helps keep off the streets.
