More about ISF Cambodia Promoting Equality through Sport
Poverty, domestic expectations, cultural traditions and stereotypes present a major barrier to women and girls’ active participation in school, society and sport in Cambodia. Through ISF’s football program, we empower female players and coaches to challenge gender stereotypes and discrimination and provide opportunities for personal development, peer-to-peer education and mentoring through coaching. Girls and women succeeding in a traditionally male-dominated area is challenging gender stereotypes in the communities we work in.
Lack of awareness and understanding result in the perpetuation of stigma against persons with disabilities and those affected by HIV in Cambodia. Individuals are often marginalized and prevented from participating in society. In order to provide sport and promote social inclusion, ISF has developed projects supporting young people affected by HIV and a range of disabilities, including regular coaching, annual tournaments, evnets and festivals.
ISF uses its football program to break down the harmful perceptions that perpetuate inequality in Cambodian society today.
