More about How Hockey Helps
The Hockey Foundation uses ice hockey to empower under-served youth, promote social change, peace and prosperity, and support community development through hockey. Our programming embraces diversity, encourages participation of/for all, and enlists a variety of diverse community members to be a part of our coaching & playing teams. We reward cooperation and effort, positive impact, increased enrollment (especially for female players) regardless of circumstances (socio-economic, political, religious, etc). Part of our implementation relies upon where we send our coaches and how much equipment gets donated to a particular club. We use this support as tool to encourage greater cooperation, and withhold extra support when individuals/clubs resort to conflict over conversation. Throughout the year we maintain a dialogue with community hockey leaders and encourage them to be positive role models and organize programs on our behalf. We spend time talking to individuals and organizations about the culture of hockey, and how working towards a common goal is in the best interest of all clubs, and that when one group gets better, everybody improves.
