More about Guys & Goals
The fact remains that men still have a major problem with the poor state of their health:
- Men still have a lower life expectancy than women (77, compared with 81)
- Men have a higher incidence rate for cancers and suicide • More than 120,000 men in the UK die prematurely each year
- Men are less likely to go to a GP or pharmacy and are also less likely to participate on traditional public health programmes.
The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, working in partnership with local health providers such as the National Health Service, have used sport and the power of the brand of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club to engage with those men who have traditionally not accessed mainstream health provision by designing unique and innovative programmes that help increase physical activity and improve their health and fitness. Sessions run every twice a week in the evenings with activities including football, badminton and boxing.
Additionally we run information ‘team talk’ style workshops delivered by local and national partners ranging from smoking cessations advice to Blood Pressure Association. Participants are also given the opportunity to use club facilities, attend home matches and access additional training programmes through the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and our partners.
