More about Global Goals World Cup
The Global Goals World Cup is an alternative women’s activist five a side soccer world cup, leveraging the power of sport to raise awareness of the UN SDG’s in general, and engage women in the development agenda in particular.
Our tournaments unite multiple stakeholders around their shared objective of achieving the UN Global Goals. We seek to reframe the competitive sports domain as a key enabler of Sustainable Development. In doing this we draw on the most powerful change agents in the world: Women with a purpose! We create and promote a new type of physically active and activist female role model and we examine how sports events and sports arenas can be reconfigured to appeal more to women. The rules have been adjusted, so that soccer skills only account for 1/4 of the victory. Activism, style and crowd engagement are the other 2/3.
This is not your average soccer world cup, but then again, the kind of challenges we need to overcome to reach the Global Goals by 2030 are not your average challenges.
