SIA’s implementation strategy is sport integrated with anti GBV messages. How?
1. Through Stop GBV Leagues and tournaments
The Boys and Young Men’s teams compete in local leagues while tournaments are held monthly and quarterly. Tournaments are used to raise awareness on girls and women’ rights and challenge negative attitudes by showcasing how girls and boys can come together as equals, and work towards a common goal.
Leagues and Tournaments are a great platform for local leaders, heath centre staff and the police to engage the boys and young men about GBV with services like voluntary HIV/AIDS testing and counselling being made available.
2. The project holds regular meetings with community stakeholders, including teachers, parents and local leaders to ensure their support
3. Using local radio coverage to expand the reach of key messages.
4. Working with sports celebrities as champions of change to reach out to boys and young men and inspire them.
5. Working through already existing local community structures and empowering local actors to be key agents of change.
6. Training boys and young men, community coaches, and teachers to deliver regular sport and life skills se
