More about Future Jobs Fund
The effects of being unemployed for a long period of time can be totally demoralising for young people, by using sport this programme helps re-build their self esteem and confidence. Participants on the Future Jobs programme work up to 25 hours per week as Assistant Sports Coaches They assist in the delivery of a range of sporting activities to all sections of the community in sports such as football, table tennis, basketball, cricket and volleyball. As far as possible coaches are placed on projects in areas that they live to utilise their experience and understanding of the local area and culture and also to act as role models for other young people.
The majority of sessions are practical sessions and the coaches have tapped into their love and enthusiasm for sport to find a way back into employment. Another important aspect of the programme is to ensure that all the Future Jobs Participants receive relevant training and qualifications and as part of their six month contract the coaches attend Croydon College to gain an NVQ Level 2 in Activity Leadership and additionally an Industrial Occupational Awareness certificate.
