More about Futbolito Pacoima
YSC's target area, Pacoima, has high levels of gang violence, a large youth population and is historically one of the most economically disadvantaged and violent districts in the City of Los Angeles. Facing a disastrous 50% high school drop out rate, many of Pacoima’s youth have limited opportunities to graduate from high school. YSC serves youth, ages 11 to 19, who are at-risk for joining gangs, have special academic or behavioral needs, or attend low-performing schools.
Futbolito an international sport, also known as "Futsal", is an extremely popular means to engage youth in the skills and tactics of soccer. Futbolito Pacoima gives youth the opportunity to improve their physical health during a time where they are most at risk to be involved in juvenile gang activity and violence. Futbolito Pacoima targets youth who have a difficult time staying in organized sports due to costs, accessibility and behavior issues. Futbolito Pacoima allows youth who are engaging in gang or violent behavior to start becoming involved in a character building program where they learn about respect and responsibility.
