More about FootballPlus Academy
Jon Hamilton, UEFA A licensed coach (English FA), CEO of FootballPlus, was inspired to start FootballPlus after traveling to Aceh in early 2005 to provide football clinics for children in refugee camps. He saw the passion that Indonesians had for football, the need for quality coaches, but also the poverty and social, religious and ethnic tensions that exist within the country.
In September 2009 the FootballPlus and FutsalPlus Academies opened to players from a mix of social, religious and ethnic backgrounds. We now have 125 players in the football academy and 100 in the futsal, aged from 3 to 25, both girls and boys. Our academies aim to:
- Provide the best quality footballing experience in Bandung
- Develop the character and attitude of each player giving them a firm foundation for their lives both on and off the pitch
- Provide schooling and sponsorship opportunities to give players in academy a brighter future (Champions project).
At FootballPlus we use football to help underprivileged children, giving them an opportunity to develop as players and as individuals that they would not otherwise have had, through scholarships to our FootballPlus and FutsalPlus Academy, to local schools, and by providing mentorships for them. By playing on a team with those of different economic, religious or ethnic backgrounds, they are learning tolerance and building confidence as they build relationships with those whose worlds they would never otherwise have had access to.
