Football Oral Self-testing has been using the power and the popularity of the activities of the game of football to create opportunity to football team members and community members at large, getting to know their HIV status by visiting VCT tents as well as knowing and understanding a recently WHO approved innovative ways of HIV self-testing that provides an alternative to those who fear stigmatization and discrimination by visiting conventional HCT.HIV/AIDS is a major health problem in Sub-Saharan Africa, and it is vital that people know their HIV status, that those testing positive be evaluated promptly for appropriate treatment, and that individuals needing treatment are successfully retained on treatment. Common barriers to HIV testing, access to care, and adherence to anti-retroviral therapy include stigma, privacy issues, distance to the clinic, long wait time, lack of community involvement, and loss of employment and productivity.In addition, innovative strategies may make it easier for HIV+ individuals to stay on care. Community-supported models of care for HIV positive people in Sub-Saharan Africa, including social support groups of HIV+ individuals who can take turns.
