More about Football For Life
There are currently 150-200 million migrant laborers who have moved from the countryside into China’s major cities in search of work. The children uprooted in the process suffer from limited access to education and government services. Moreover the lack of stability also makes them especially vulnerable to low self-esteem, low self image and delinquency. Many lack a strong parental influence and grow up to be disenfranchised and marginalized. FFL helps to tackle these issues in a number of ways. By filling a void in the children’s physical education – an area often overlooked due to a lack of resources and recognition of its importance.
By offering a platform for children to interact and play together, developing relationships and making friends where they otherwise wouldn’t. The presence of foreign coaches provides motivation to develop their English skills to facilitate communication. A compassionate, nurturing atmosphere builds confidence, courage, commitment and care within the group. The passion for football that develops offers common ground with their parents (especially their father) strengthening family bonds. Further developments in the project will see migrant children play against other “ClubFootball” children from local and international schools, further breaking down social barriers.
