Vietnam has enjoyed peace for decades. However, children born long after the hostilities ceased still live with the dangers of war on a daily basic. The first UXO survey in 2013 by NPA (Norwegian People Aid) showed that 7 out of 20 FFAV’s football pitches having UXOs. That alarmed us on the level of danger for the children in Vietnam to play football on open fields. According to government, since 1975, there have been more than 100.000 people died of UXO in Vietnam and many more unrecorded.
Regarding the security of the pitches, FFAV and NPA have started its partnership in making football safe. In this relation, NPA, with its expertise, provide technical support to survey and clear FFAV’s football pitches from the UXOs.
FFAV with its 13 years in developing grass football and using this structure for development has proved the value of sport in general and football in particular as a means of meeting development goals. The project, with its well-designed sport programs is an effective medium for learning and building skills, increasing knowledge, improving health and fitness and ultimately yielding positive attitudes and behaviors.
