More about Find a Guide
Find a Guide aims to combat two of the most significant issues facing visually impaired people:
1) That only 10.4% of adults with a visual impairment in England take part in sport once a week, compared to 36.1% of non-disabled adults (Sport England’s Active People Survey, 2016).
2) That four out every 10 blind and partially sighted people in England feel moderately or completely cut off from people and things around them. (My Voice, RNIB, 2015)
57% of the running market are also extrinsically motivated and therefore either need motivation from peers, expert support, camaraderie, reassurance or socialising with like-minded people (England Athletics Segmentation project 2015). This is exaggerated for visually impaired people who often can’t go out running on their own.
Find a Guide has been created to inspire visually impaired people, who cannot run on their own, to run knowing that the first barrier of finding someone to guide them has been removed. Through Find a Guide visually impaired people can search for, and contact, guide runners near them to help them start, get back into, or continue running.
