More about Extreme Recess
Extreme Recess gives kids with disabilities the opportunity to play sports such as baseball, soccer, basketball, track and field, water and snow skiing, deep sea diving and sailing, often for the first time in their lives. Participating in challenging activities with peers for a segment of society which is isolated and given little opportunity for inclusion increases and reinforces a child's positive belief in their own abilities, building immeasurable confidence and self-esteem.
At a base level, recreational activities are vital to a child’s health. Extreme Recess helps improve respiratory capacity, circulation, heart rate, muscle tone, and consequently their quality of life. Youth have opportunities to expand their social lives as they come from the sidelines of life to participate in the activities of their dreams. Extreme Recess brings children the joy of teammates and new friends who cheer their ability and success.
The confidence, self-respect, and motivation gained during the events carry over to the classroom and empower children to passionately learn and seize each and every day. Most importantly, participating youth are united with their diverse peers and empowered to pay it forward for those who are less fortunate through leadership activities and social change projects.
