More about Exposure: A Women's Benefit Event
Our annual Exposure: A Women's Benefit Event brings much needed visibility and support to girls' skateboarding. Until recently, the girls who have been working to pursue the sport have either been lumped in with the men or treated as a side show to the men's side of skateboarding. Today, the women progressing the sport are treated as lesser than the men: the women's prize purse is typically 20% or less than the men's and they get little to no media coverage. Exposure works to address this issue by creating the world's largest women's skateboarding event. The event brings together 130 of the world's top female skateboarders to perform on a global stage. We invite the men considered the top industry leaders and professionals to sign autographs and be a presence at the event to give them a shift in perspective. Exposure believes that skateboarding is an empowering sport for girls. Our other programs are designed to build confidence, community and compassion. Each of our free events engage girls in a combination of skateboarding, education and community service. This three-pronged approach of complementary activities cultivates skills necessary to excel in leadership.
