More about Ethiopia Netball
Budehaven Community School acquired funding through the Youth Sport Trust Dreams and Teams programme to develop a three year exchange programme with a school in Africa. The Global School Partnership allows secondary schools to implement a mutually agreed partnership which focuses on using sport to achieve positive social and educational change in both the schools and their wider community. The partnership aims to affect progressive development through citizenship, sports leadership and sharing teaching and learning styles.
Budehaven were linked with Assosa General Secondary and Preparatory School, which has 3,245 students but only 70 teachers. There are between 70-120 students per lesson, timetabled in 2 shifts morning and afternoon. Some children walk for 2 hours just to get to school. Following a preparatory visit from senior staff from Assosa to Budehaven, the game of netball was introduced as a sport to enhance the lives of women in the town.
