More about ESPN Brings Sports Courts to Underserved Communities
ESPN’s objective was to build multifunctional sport courts in global communities (Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires in 2016) which are carefully selected based on need, population and socio-economic status. In turn, these communities will see sports opportunities renewed by the addition of the safe spaces which are open to all.
Following the opening, the second objective is to provide ongoing programming for young people in the community where they will learn job skills and be empowered to fulfill their potential, all through the power of sports. By mobilizing the community and ensuring quality sports programs, these spaces will serve as a hub for local activity and provide a safe place for young people.
This align's with ESPN's focus areas of providing youth access to sports and leadership through sports.
