More about Doves Olympic Movement
The Doves Olympic Movement is a theory driven sport initiative that aims to utilize the framework of the philosophy and principles of the Olympic Movement to promote cross-cultural understanding and peaceful co-existence. The Project’s curriculum entail a number of activities that provide the opportunity to the Doves Project participants to play their favorite sport, learn about the values of the Olympic Movement and become active global citizens by engaging in Global issues. Summer Camps and Community Based Activities are only few examples of the Doves Project- that demonstrate how Olympism can be utilized to transform youth into active citizens.
Since 2005 the Doves participants, inspired by the Olympism philosophy, implemented community based initiatives related with the protection of the environment, enhancement of social inclusion of people with disabilities and underprivileged youth and the development of active citizens that think, care, and act beyond community and national boundaries.
Through this project more than 700 Youth and 50 instructors from the Greek and the Turkish Cypriot community were brought together in an educationally sound environment in which they developed friendships and created a small community of active citizens with increased believe that they can contribute in the reconciliation process of their island.
