More about Disability Is Not Inability Project(DINIP)

Disability Is Not Inability project(DINIP) Disability Is Not Inability Project (DINIP
has started in Burera since 2011.It targets disabled women and promote their rights through football tournaments. Disabled women experience poverty more intensely,
and attitudinal and structural barriers limit their opportunities to escape poverty.
‘Social exclusion’ is also a concept that is widely used because they are both actively and passively excluded in our community development. Our community people do not
value disabled women potentials because they consider them as objects of charity.
They are underestimated and overprotected, and their potential and abilities are not
recognized. Disabled women are seen as a source of shame and often hidden
away. Name-calling (IKIMUGA in Kinyarwanda which means useless) is
common. Disabled women find difficult to get married and suffer discrimi-
nation in employment. Our project has focused on disabled women rights
through football tournaments and the project has been able to have tangible
impacts because more than 250 women with disabilities knew their rights to education and inheritance.
