More about Developing Life Skills Thru Football
Dream A Dream has identified a critical gap of lack of Life Skills Education in the current school curriculum for children from socially and economically vulnerable backgrounds. As a result the children from these schools tend to drop out with out completing matriculation, lack the focus in higher education, are most vulnerable to crime, abuse and violence and develop unhealthy behaviours.
Dream A Dream uses Football to develop Life Skills in children from the realization that it has an intrinsic power to change the behaviour of children if used systematically, consistently and creatively.
The Dream Football programme follows a Football as a medium based on the problems identified on the field and in the communities through an intensive community engagement and mapping process. The Curriculum is designed for a period of 7 years from 4th grade to 10th grade. An Average of fifty sessions are implemented on the field for particular age group in a year.
Each session is designed on a specific Life Skills theme like Decision Making, Problem solving, Leadership building, Gender sensitivity etc. The curriculum is implemented through Life Skills Coaches trained through Dream A Dream's signature Creative Facilitation model. Reflection Circles at the end of each session introduce, reinforce and help children learn to apply life skills in their circumstances. The recurring sessions reinforce the life skills development of children and make them more proactive and assertive members in their community.
