More about Developing Game-Changing Skills Among Children & Youth in Rural South Africa
Thanda uses skateboarding and after-school programmes to develop Five Game-Changing Skills among children & youth: self-esteem, perspective, empathy, critical thinking, and creativity. These skills are fundamental for children to build resilience, become curious, life-long learners, and feel empowered to overcome the cycle of poverty that pervades rural communities. On a larger scale, these skills are critical for understanding interconnectedness and taking responsibility for how actions impact the environment and one another, which are essential for an individual to contribute positively to his/her community.
