More about Deport-es para Compartir (Sports to share)
The program promotes consciousness of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of the UN using games and sports as the channel in an inclusive approach, culminating with a treasure box exchange among different communities in appreciation of the rich cultural diversity of Mexico. Deport-es para Compartir empowers children to be agents of change in their community and as citizens of the world.
By using experiential games, promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles, the program brings to the children the opportunity to live the reality of the MDGs. Sports and games, as children universal languages, represent a great channel to experience the MDGs issues and important values such as teamwork, fair-play, gender equality respect and tolerance. Moreover, the program is looking forward to change Mexico’s conception of sport, shifting from a commercial activity to a development tool. Deport-es para Compartir is an innovative program since it is the only initiative addressing these issues through sport within Mexico.
We’ve been working in different contexts, such as indigenous shelters, public and private schools, in both rural and urban communities. The program’s aim is to reach the whole Mexican childhood and to expand internationally.
