D.C. United is the Washington metropolitan area’s professional soccer team, one of the ten charter members of Major League Soccer (MLS)--and has won thirteen titles since 1996, including four MLS Cups. Our long-term objective is to build a loyal fan base that enjoys the excitement of professional-level soccer and appreciates the nuances of the world’s #1 sport. We believe that directly exposing children to soccer in a fun environment that also promotes the health and wellness needed to play and enjoy the game is a proven strategy to build our fan base.
In 2015, D.C. United made DC SCORES--a then-21-year-old local nonprofit that launched in the wake of the ‘94 World Cup--its official community partner. This decision was made in order to embrace the social responsibility of attending to the region’s most in-need children by expanding DC SCORES’ youth soccer program throughout Washington D.C.’s highest poverty wards.
This partnership’s objectives align with Goal 3: Health and Well-Being (by using soccer as a tool to increase physical activity levels) and Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities (our partnership provides tangible health, social and emotional, and academic benefits for at-risk,
