More about Dagoretti Amani FC
During these changing times youth in Dagoretti community are faced with varying needs brought forth by complex and challenging issues like. HIV/AIDS, Tribal conflict, Drug and substance abuse, Crime and gang violence, poverty and Gender Inequality etc. Most young people have been neglected to cope with the stress and shock brought forth by the above challenges.
The Dagoretti amani group works with adult mentors with a collective communal philosophy of child and youth well being and connects them with young boys and girls interested in community driven development and sports. The program uses soccer as the intervention to reach out to the youth and create a platform of promoting peace, gender equality, developing leadership capacities through life skills training’s, supporting youth in their education through homework clubs and peer education on HIV/AIDS issues.
This program has been a success and demonstrated that recreational spaces serve as a protective factor for young people because it keeps them from being idle and having unstructured time during which they may engage in risky behavior.
