More about Crossover Basketball and Scholars Academy
The literacy rate in India is under 50%, with less than 40% of children graduating from high school. Though programs targeted toward renovations in India’s academic culture and structure could introduce key changes in the way the system approaches students, that’s only half the battle.
At Crossover, we asked ourselves: how can we change the way the students approach the system? Through after-school basketball teams situated in a school context, students who are part of our program will begin playing the game both on the court and off.
By using the concept of the “team” to engage the students on both an individual and communal level, Crossover isolates the motivations and ideals of good sportsmanship and gives the students the tools to carry what they learn on the court into the classroom. We believe that education is the ultimate key to unlock the doors many children in India currently lack access to—and the creativity, drive, and cooperation that are vital to success in basketball are untapped ways to get closer to the fantastic opportunities on the other side.
