More about Cricket Without Boundaries
Cricket Without Boundaries’ (“CWB”) projects are based around the development of new cricket coaches in each region in which we operate. Adults and youths are trained in how to coach cricket, learning skills whilst working with children and other players. HIV/AIDS awareness is a key pillar of the coaching programme.
We seek a commitment from all our new coaches to continually stress HIV/AIDS awareness messages as part of their coaching sessions after the project has finished. We ensure that the HIV/AIDS awareness messages are linked to the activities being undertaken in each session; in particular, using cricket imagery and metaphors to raise awareness. For example, it is easier to protect your wicket (life) if you have a bat (condom) than if you don’t and the impact your actions have on your team (family and community).
An important part of our strategy is the adoption of inclusive messages as part or HIV/AIDS awareness – people with the disease playing with those without goes a long way to break down barriers and stigmas. Each project finishes with a tournament for local children organised and run by our newly-qualified cricket coaches.
