More about Copa Indigena
The Copa Indigena works in the different indigenous villages, by hosting soccer tournaments (4 in indigenous villages, one in San José) which also include workshops and cultural presentations. The goals are to promote gender equality and to form leaders out of the young players from the different indigenous territories, so that (if necessary with our support) they can fight for their communities’ rights and the equality of all indigenous and non-indigenous people. We are using soccer as a method to reach this goal, because by being part of a team and becoming leaders of their team the young people learn a lot about leader qualities and the importance of team work.
