More about Completing Education through Sports
Dream Sports Program is run in partnership with NGO run schools located in slum communities. Thus the intervention supplements regular schooling and children from vulnerable backgrounds get an opportunity for completing education by developing critical life skills.
The Program provides children with skills to become proficient in the medium- i.e. sports (football, rugby) because the program is run by professional coaches. More importantly, the program has a structured curriculum oriented towards developing life skills. The life skills focused in Dream Sports Program are:
1. Interpersonal communication
2. Ability to handle difficult situations and solve problems
3. Initiative taking
4. Conflict management
5. Willingness to follow instructions.
These skills equip children & youth with emotional and intellectual maturity that they need in pulling themselves out of the vicious cycle of poverty and life on the street. In addition, volunteers from the local community participate in the running of the program thus creating spaces for breaking class barriers.
The Program tackles two social issues - developing critical life coping skills that help vulnerable children / youth in making a successful transition into adulthood and becoming fully functioning productive members of the society and sensitizing the community towards issues faced by these children
