More about Coaching for a Safer Community
Three years ago Firefighter David Amiet of Lewes Fire Station, East Sussex attended a serious road traffic collision, when he arrived at the scene three young persons were standing by the hatchback with minor injuries, all had been wearing their seat belts, he was told by one of the young persons that their friend was under a 4 x 4 vehicle. He proceeded to the vehicle and made contact with the young lad and ascertained that he was in a serious condition.
He was drifting in and out of consciousness and in a lot of pain, they managed to find a common ground and talked about football, it turned out that the lad enjoyed playing, this really hit home because looking at his injuries David suspected that if he survived he may never play again. Following this incident and many others David spent three years developing a joint initiative called Coaching for a Safer Community with East & West Sussex Fire & Rescue Services, Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club, The Football Foundation and Sussex County Football Association.
