More about Coaching Corps
Coaching Corps, a program of Team-Up for Youth, was created to address the serious shortage of youth sports coaches in low-income communities. Coaching Corps provides children and sports programs in low-income neighborhoods with what they need most—trained coaches who serve as role models. Team-Up for Youth recruits, trains and places our volunteer college coaches in all types of sports and physical arts programs serving low-income youth. And Coaching Corps builds coaching communities. Coaches share stories and tips with each other online.
We work with community partners to help them build and sustain a committed coaching staff. Of course, the young athletes receive the most important benefit—playing and learning with adults young enough to relate to them and old enough to teach them critical lessons and skills, for sports and life. Everyone plays and wins—communities, programs, coaches, and most importantly, children. Coaching Corps is a proven model for engaging college students with low-income communities in mutually beneficial, respectful relationships. And we continue to perfect our model to build even more strong, sustained communities through coaching—communities that help more youth in need get access to programs and coaches who make a difference.
