The Coach for America program is a new vehicle to engage millions of citizens in service through sports. Through this program, a new workforce will be created in the field of sports-based youth development. The Up2Us coalition is a U.S. based organization of more than 175 sports-based youth development non-profit groups. Up2Us, in coordination with its member organizations, has developed the Coach for America program to build a workforce of trained sports-based youth development coaches in the United States. After a comprehensive training program, each coach enters an under-served community and teaches life skills through sports. Each coach works for a local sports-based non-profit organization as a full time or part time employee. The Up2Us coalition helps facilitate ongoing training, evaluation, and support of the program by being in constant communication with all coaches and participating sports-based youth development organizations that are members of the Up2Us coalition. Coach for America will engage over 30,000 youth and over 10,000 volunteers in its first year of inception. Upon completion of the Coach for America program, coaches will be accredited as sports-based youth development coaches and will take the knowledge from Coach for America and directly impact sports throughout their lives.
