More about Coach Development: Building Youth Employability and Leadership
Grassroot Soccer (GRS) is a leading global sport for development organization that uses the power of soccer as a tool to educate, inspire, and mobilize young people to live healthier lives. GRS’s soccer based programming has been demonstrated to help young people at high risk of chronic unemployment, low productivity, crime, and health problems thrive in modern society and become community-based leaders and role models.
South Africa has the third highest youth unemployment rate in the world. Over half of 18-25 year olds are unemployed, and 89% of unemployed youth do not have any work experience. Coach Development, GRS’s innovative two-year employability program, provides youth ages 18-25 with the knowledge, skills, and support to become employable and motivated leaders in their communities. Through this program Coaches become ‘employees’ of GRS, gaining real work experience and creating positive habits and routines needed in the workforce. Coaches also participate in individual and group development courses that have been jointly created with private sector partners to produce a relevant skill set that enables them to find further employment, education, or training after GRS.
