More about Coach Across America
Coach Across America (CAA) is a direct response to a nationwide childhood obesity epidemic. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates that children growing up in the United States today will suffer more chronic disease and premature death over their lifetimes from eating badly and lack of physical activity than from exposure to alcohol, tobacco, and drugs combined.
CAA addresses two key contributing factors to the obesity epidemic:
- Lack of access to quality physical activity programs in school and community-based settings due to school budget cuts and pay to play schemes that make sports prohibitive for low-income families; and
- Lack of awareness and understanding of nutrition and healthy eating habits among low income families.
By placing expertly trained coaches in community-based settings to provide physical activity and nutrition education, CAA enables grass-roots youth sports programs to serve more youth and provides young people at risk for poor health with information that empowers them to make healthy life choices.
