More about Clean Air Champions
Clean Air Champions' mission is to inspire Canadians to live more sustainable, active and healthier lifestyles. CAC uses sport and physical activity as a powerful panacea to address critical environmental and health issues like ground level ozone, climate change, respiratory and cardio disease, diabetes, and obesity (sedentary lifestyles). We have over 200 Champions; National team, Olympic and Paralympic athletes who are passionate about our mission – many of their sport careers and health are directly impacted by pollution and climate change.
Canada is not scoring well in critical areas: It recently ranked 27 out of 29 developed countries in rates of obesity (Unicef, 2013); our population is facing epidemics in lung disease (asthma, cancer), diabetes and heart disease; today’s youth are not predicted to outlive their parents due to early onset of such diseases; and we are the second highest in the world on per capita greenhouse gas emissions. Clean Air Champions delivers a unique and important message that explains the interconnections between lifestyles and our ecological systems. We focus our solutions on physical activity, like active transportation and participation in sport, and daily eco-choices that together result in healthier citizens and a cleaner, safer planet for all.
