More about Classroom Champions
Olympic bobsledder Steve Mesler had a unique platform to inspire kids and share lessons he learned from sport. He realised speaking at a school once did not have a long term effect and asked his teacher friends to try a year-long pilot. Each month he sent a lesson to their classes, recorded from wherever he was training/competing, on a particular topic, ending each video with a challenge for kids to put the skill to use. Teachers gave feedback on impact and a few times a year Steve chatted live with the kids to check on their progress.
Classroom Champions was formed with the belief that this unique approach to mentoring could help kids thrive by putting a successful adult into their lives who was invested in their success. More than 28 Canadian and US Olympians and Paralympians serve as Athlete Mentors to nearly 5000 students in 140 classrooms in low-income and low-access areas across North America.
Classroom Champions provides at-risk kids with an opportunity to create their own brighter future by providing engaging learning experiences and relationships to change their lives. We believe kids have what it takes and sometimes they just need a champion to help them succeed.
