More about City in the Community Foundation

Community is deeply seeded in the Manchester City’s heritage, benefitting the community was the reason the Club was formed in 1894 by the Connell Family; this remains our primary objective today. As a charity, City in the Community Foundation utilises the brand of MCFC to engage some hard to reach social groups. We maximise our fundraising through support of the Club and players which allows us to support local and international charities, communities and voluntary organisations. Manchester is listed as the 4th most deprived local authority in England when measured for overall deprivation. The key social issues that we aim to tackle are Health, Education, Unemployment, Anti-social behaviour, and providing accessible and inclusive sporting activities. City in the Community use sport as a tool to engage and inspire people to achieve their goals whilst tackling social issues in Manchester. Unemployment is addressed by providing qualifications, vocational experience and employability skills. Sport and physical activity are used to tackle physical and mental health issues. Sport as an evening provision aims to reduce anti-social behaviour. Sport is combined with education for young people in schools, and finally sport is used as a key tool for social improvement for young people with disabilities.
