More about Chicago Training Center Rowing
Rowing does not have an established tradition in the Chicago neighbourhoods served by CTC, where basketball and football predominate and where success in such sports is seen as a means of dramatic social mobility for the few that achieve it.
Rowing offers the participant two definitive access privileges that are rarely granted in other athletic pursuits. The sport is built into the fabric of high achieving universities given its once dominant position as most popular sport of the country. We give our participants access to those schools in a way that could have monumental ramifications for future career, personal, and earning opportunities. Rowing also lays claim to a dynamic and upwardly mobile network of adults. The intangible requirements that rowing requires to achieve are skill sets that last a lifetime and differentiates the individual from those that were ‘not part of the club’.
CTC is committed to offering its participants a structured environment within which they can realize their athletic, academic, and personal potential and develop new goals, specifically that of entering higher education. Our current model has us graduating 100% of our full-time participants graduating on time (in 4 years) as opposed to the 50% average citywide.
