More about Chevrolet One World Futbol Global Initiative
Play is recognized as a fundamental right, and is necessary for healthy development of children and youth. However, many of the world’s poorest children don’t have regular access to play, or to programs that use sports to address social issues like HIV/AIDS, gender-based violence, water and sanitation hygiene, peace and reconciliation, and girls empowerment. The Chevrolet One World Futbol Global Initiative is providing sustainable access to play for some of the world’s poorest children by distributing 1.5 million virtually-indestructible balls over three years to sport-for-development programs that serve disadvantaged children and youth all over the world. Using a conservative estimate of 20 children per ball, we will have impacted the lives of 4.7 million children in the first year of the Chevrolet Initiative (based on 237,275 balls distributed since October 2012). By the end of the three-year commitment in 2015, we will have reached over 30 million children. Rather than replicate existing sport-for-social change programs that are already successful, we believe our best contribution is to provide these programs additional sustainable resources – balls that never go flat and never need a pump - allowing them to focus on their missions, grow their programs and to reach even more children.
