More about Champions of Game Day Food Program
The way our food is produced, transported, prepared and disposed of has a profound impact on our environment, and directly affects public health. Changing the menus at sports venues offers an unparalleled platform to educate consumers and the marketplace about healthy food. Among many staggering food facts is: if the global food industry were a country, it would rank as the third largest emitter of life-threatening greenhouse gases; and 40% percent of the food in the US is wasted, and reducing food waste by just 15% could feed more than 25 million Americans each year. Using the sports industry as a powerful platform, Champions of Game Day Food Program aims to educate industry stakeholders to reduce the ecological and public health impacts associated with the food served at sports venues and events, and raise awareness about food and sustainability among millions of fans. The Champions of Game Day Food report and associated activations highlight the essential health and ecological considerations at each stage of food service – helping the sports industry evaluate the full lifecycle of food and beverage service in order to build a safer, healthier, and more sustainable food system.
