More about Champa Ban 'Little Blossoms' Rugby for All (CBRFA)
Champa Ban Rugby for All (CBRFA) tackles the exclusion of urban and rural children from recreational sporting activities by providing a safe, fun and secure environment for children to participate in rugby union. In the Lao PDR, only the most athletically gifted are given the opportunity to play organized sports, and those who play do so in a very competitive environment. Moreover, the capacity of many teachers to deliver quality physical education is low, especially in rural areas, and there are especially few sporting opportunities available to young women.
A significant portion of the Lao PDR’s young population is thus excluded from the opportunity to learn the importance of healthy living and fitness or life lessons such as teamwork, trust, respect, discipline and communication through recreational sporting.
Through weekly in-school rugby training sessions, bi-monthly community rugby sessions held at the weekend at a central location in Vientiane, weekend-long summer residential camps, and the CBRFA Rugby League, all of which are organized, administered and coached by local Lao staff, the LRF provides girls and boys structurally excluded from social physical education activities the opportunity to play, be healthy and form friendships through sport, whilst realizing personal development opportunities to the fullest.
