More about CAST Youth Development Programme
CAST Youth Development Programme uses sport as a way to tackle sexual health issues regarding HIV/AIDS and teenage pregnancy. CAST Youth Development operates in six under-resourced communities across KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
KwaZulu-Natal has one of the highest rates of HIV/AIDS in the world. In the adult population age 15-49 within our communities, the HIV prevalence rate is 15.9 percent. As a result, many of our youth participants grow up without any kind of parent figure, and struggle to make wise decisions, while also maximizing their potential.
To combat these issues, CAST’s sports programmes focus on whole life coaching using the Ubabalo eAfrica curriculum, which focuses on meeting the emotional, intellectual, social, environmental, and physical needs of youth.
Ubabalo training sessions are structured to cover a technical sport skill and a life skill, finding connections between the two. The life skills section includes information about making responsible decisions, especially regarding sexual health.
