More about CAST Youth Development Program
CAST operates in township communities in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Schools in these communities are encumbered with classes of 70+ learners, stretching the limited resources available which results in poor learning conditions. The impact of this has far-reaching negative effects. Low pass rates severely impede employment opportunities, exacerbating the current local unemployment rate of 35%.
CAST's sports program is designed to develop resiliency among youth in these communities, a key attribute in overcoming obstacles that stand in the way of their educational and career goals.
CAST focuses on teaching youth the life skills necessary to pursue further education and employment in order to overcome generational poverty. Moreover, we want to develop future leaders who can overcome the social challenges in their communities and provide solutions. CAST accomplishes this through the Ubabalo eAfrica Whole Life Coaching Program, which uses sports as a way to teach life skills, resiliency and holistic health. A sports-based programme strongly appeals to the youth, while also empowering them to pursue their educational/career goals and transform their communities.
