More about Capital One UK 'EPIC Sports Project'
Capital One have partnered St Ann's and Sneinton EIP since 2006. Our partnership develops local sport for development (SFD) opportunities for children and families in highly deprived communities. The EIP supports partnership working primarily alongside 12 local schools, but offers SFD for a further 19 schools in the City. Sport is identified by school Head teachers (EIP management groups) as being an effective way to engage children and impact families by:
- Improving emotional wellbeing and confidence
- Reducing social barriers (including territorialism and Gang related activity)
- Supporting the delivery of the Every Child Matters outcomes
- Growing stronger communities Capital One enables EIP schools to begin tackling many of the issues that makes parts of Nottingham City challenging places to live.
We have achieved this by offering children and families high quality, local and inclusive sporting opportunities that were previously unavailable. Providing children the opportunity to take part in sports (often led by their parents) as well as receiving extra support from Capital One’s associates has enabled our provision to grow and sustain itself. Sport has allowed the EIP to make interventions with hundreds of families and provided opportunities for families to showcase their talents either through playing or leading local clubs.
