More about Concentrated Influence: Boston Celtics Philanthropical Approach
To understand our work, one needs to understand the economic and social divide that exists in Boston. In Boston’s 48 square miles, there are numerous world-renowned universities, cutting edge hospitals and a booming tech industry.
The stark contrast between the aforementioned industries and plight of Boston’s children is astonishing. 32% of children are living in poverty and among non-white children that percentage is significantly higher. With the heightened popularity of basketball in Boston’s neighborhoods, it is our responsibility to help to bridge this gap in every way possible. Through programs like Stay in School, Step Your Game Up and Read to Achieve we are able to use Celtics assets to offer unique experiences and incentives to motivate thousands of students to improve their academic performance.
Our Jr. Celtics program has been successful in inspiring youth to be physically active and develop their work ethic. Our CommUNITY Crew initiative along with various player-foundation events and team sponsorships has enabled us to provide safer, more learning-conducive recreational and educational spaces in Boston Public Schools and community centers. Our multiple educational, wellness and infrastructure programs allow Boston’s students to receive a more level experience compared to their wealthier, suburban counterparts.
