More about Bridges of Hope
Malalo incorporates life skills messages into sports-particularly in relation to poverty and HIV/AIDS. Zambia is one of Africa’s poorest countries and has one of the highest prevalence rates of HIV in the world among 15-49 year olds. Malalo’s Bridges of Hope project provides free, easy access to structured sport and education activities for youth, particularly girls and women.
Through community partnerships, its project participants are linked to formal vocational and educational resources including a focus on HIV/AIDS and malaria prevention, environmental education and school drop-out prevention. Project participants are invited to workshops for events such as Women’s Day and World Aids Day to raise awareness of the issues that affect women in the community.
